Mersilde, the Seventh Servitor of Duke Syrach
Mersilde is a demon mentioned within the Grimorium Verum as the seventh of the eighteen inferior demons who are in servitude to Duke Syrach. He is also mentioned within the Secrets of Solomon and other lesser known grimories. The demon is also referred to as Merfilde or Mertiel although these titles are less used within the context of practice. There is a notable lack of information regarding this demon highlighting his obscurity within demonology circles.
Mersilde is able to assist the conjuror with teleportation and astral projection. The Grimorium Verum reports that this demon is able to make one move from one place to another in an instant. This is however dependent on the true nature of the medium. His ranking as seventh within the hierarchy somewhat diminishes his potency although it is important to accord him the necessary respect – as one should rightly do when dealing with all demonic entities. The demon could be benevolent, malevolent, or even indifferent towards mortal human beings as his true nature is presently unknown.
The dearth of information regarding the demon’s true nature means that he should be treated with caution and only experienced conjurors should attempt to summon him. Showing the utmost respect is therefore the surest way to minimize the likelihood of punitive violence while increasing the probability of desirable outcomes. It is also unknown whether this demon is nocturnal, diurnal, or both further highlighting the existent information gap on this Mersilde.
The ritual for calling forth this demon is akin to the one used in the evocation of the other servitor demons of Duke Syrach. It is a fairly complicated procedure which tasks the medium to not sin or have any sexual acts for three days before finally conducting the last steps in the process of the invocation of Mersilde. This is the most basic ritual for invoking the inferior demons under the servitude of Duke Syrach.
History
The oldest accounts of this demon can be found within the grimories of the Secrets of Solomon and the Dictionnaire Infernal. His mention within the Grimorium Verum also does not tell of his origins. The first instance that this demon is mentioned with recorded history is in 1517 during the publication of the Grimorium Verum by Alibek the Egyptian. It is possible that this demon was an ancient pagan god whose identity was lost in history with the spread of Christianity throughout the Middle Ages.

When to summon Mersilde
Mersilde is able to transport the medium through teleportation or astral projection. He can be called forth to provide counsel on these areas as well since they fall within his office. It is presently unknown whether he is a day demon or night demon however meaning that the prospect of summoning him bears some element of risk especially considering the true nature is unknown.

- This demon is quite potent as evidenced by his seventh ranking within the hierarchy of the eighteen servitor demons of Duke Synach. It is thus important to show him the necessary respect during rituals.
- The conjuror should also heed caution and protect themselves from otherworldly energies by mentally visualizing a protection circle, opening, and entering it.
- Over-reliance on the demon’s power should also be avoided as it may negatively affect the psychological part of one’s life.
Steps
- It is first necessary to craft and consecrate the instruments of the art which are the lancet, the sacrificial knife, the quill, and the lancet.
- The water must also be made holy through blessing with salt.
- The conjuror must also prepare themselves through saying the following prayer while washing the arms and face with the blessed water: “Lord God, ADONAY, who hast formed man in Thine image, I, the unworthy and sinful, beseech Thee to sanctify this water, to benefit my body and soul, cause me to be cleansed.“
- The conjuror must avoid all sin and stay chaste for three days, praying five times in the day, and four times at night.
- In the day and hour of Mars during the crescent moon in the first hour of the day, the virgin parchment should be prepared containing invocations and the Seal of Mersilde.
- The following conjuration is then said: “I conjure thee, Mersilde, by the name of the Great Living God, Sovereign Creator of all things, that thou appear in human form, fair and aggreeable, without noise or inconvenience, to answer truthfully in all the interrogations that I shall make. I conjure thee to do this by the power of the Holy and Sacred Names.“
- After he has appeared and listened to the queries of the conjuror, the demon can be dismissed respectfully with the following prayer: “Go in peace, Bechaud, whence you came, peace be with you, and come every time I shall call you, in the name of the Father + and of the Son + and of the Holy Spirit + Amen”.
