Maseriel, eighth spirit in the order

As stated above, Maseriel is the eighth spirit in the order and fourth under the great king of the South (Caspiel) according to the Ars Theurgia. He is one of the thirty-one aerial spirits of King Solomon as per his entry within the second book of Lemegeton. Maseriel is specifically accorded dominion over the direction of west by south with numerous hordes of lesser demons serving under his command. Such an entourage is also implicit of potency on the part of the demon especially given his lofty ranking. Despite having thousands of inferior demons at his service, the Ars Theurgia only makes mention of twelve of his diurnal and twelve of his nocturnal servitors for the purpose of practice.

Each of Maseriel’s servitors has an additional thirty demons acting as servants. The identities of Maseriel’s diurnal servitors as posited within the Ars Theurgia are Mahue, Roriel, Earviel, Zeriel, Atniel, Vessur, Azimel, Chasor, Patiel, Assuel, Aliel, and Espoel. Of his nocturnal servitors, the identities provided are Arach, Maras, Noguiel, Saemiel, Amoyr, Bachiel, Baros, Eliel, Earos, Rabiel, Atriel, and Salvor. The seals of each of these servitors are also provided lest the conjuror seeks to invoke them for other magical interests – it is noteworthy that the proper conjuration requires the adherence to the demon’s nocturnal or diurnal preferences.

The Ars Theurgia reports that the servitors of Maseriel are all good-natured and will readily do the bidding of the conjuror. This is however dependent upon their proper conjuration such as the nocturnal servitors being summoned under the cover of dark and vice versa. Nevertheless, the overt benevolence shown by these lesser demons implies that Maseriel himself can be summoned and bound by relatively inexperienced conjurors without much risk and his divine magic used to the advantage of the medium. Nevertheless, he should still be accorded the proper respect and treatment akin to more risky demonic prospects.

Like the other aerial spirits associated with King Solomon, Maseriel came into mainstream reckoning with his first ever entry into recorded history circa 1499. This was through the works of Johannes Trithemius in the form of the Steganographia. The second book of Lemegeton and much of the information regarding the aerial spirits are mostly derived from this publication. Maseriel is named alongside twenty-four of his servitors and their seals provided for the convenience of the medium. The aerial spirits of King Solomon are strongly attached to the element of air and Maseriel is no different. He must therefore be invoked in an airy / spacey location.

History

As previously stated, Maseriel’s first mention in recorded history can be traced back to the 1499 publication of the Steganographia by Johannes Trithemius from which the Ars Theurgia is mostly derived. He is not mentioned within other mainstream grimories making for a dearth of information regarding him or his history.

He cannot be conclusively traced back to either ancient Graeco-Roman or early Middle Eastern mthological accounts. As consistent with the other fallen angels however, it is plausible that Maseriel’s demonic identity belonged to an ancient pagan god who was cast as a demon with the advent of Christianity during the Middle Ages.

Appearance

There are no conclusive reports regarding the appearance of Maseriel within demonology. Likewise, the Ars Theurgia does not make any mentions of his manifestation besides describing his servitors as good-natured and willing to do the bidding of the conjuror. The medium is therefore tasked with perceiving the demon’s energy as opposed to physically seeing him.

  • Maseriel is ranked as the eighth spirit in the order but fourth under Caspiel. This gives him something of a lofty ranking as he is accorded dominion over the direction of West by South.
  • Of the numerous lesser demons working under his command, only twelve diurnal and twelve nocturnal servitors are mentioned within the Ars Theurgia and their seals provided for practice.
  • Maseriel is both nocturnal and diurnal as shown by half of his servitors appearing only in the day and the other half appearing exclusively at night.

When to summon Maseriel

Maseriel is endowed with divine magical properties having previously been an angel himself. His abilities can be harnessed and channeled for use within demonology especially if the conjuror is able to form a lasting bond with the demon.

  • Four inch diameter crystal stone / Glass receptacle
  • Girdle tied around the waist of the conjuror and the seal of the demon worn on the medium’s chest
  • Table of Solomon designed in the model shown below

Ritual Time: Maseriel is both diurnal and nocturnal and can be summoned in the day and night. He has a dedicated set of servitors for the night and another for the day who accompany him whenever he is called forth depending on the time of day or night.

Precautions:

  • This demon should be shown the necessary respect in order to increase the likelihood of desirable outcomes while minimizing the chance of malevolence. This is despite the description of his servitors as being of good nature.
  • The medium should remember to protect themselves from otherworldly forces by visualizing a protection circle and entering it before the start of the ritual.

Steps:

  • The medium should prepare for the ritual through power meditation so as to balance their energies.
  • The chosen venue should be spacey so that the element of air is pronounced before the start of the ritual.
  • The seal of the demon should be prominently worn on the chest of the conjuror as well as a girdle tied around the waist.
  • The following conjuration prayer is said next: “Wee Conjure thee Maseriel who rules as cheife Prince or King in the dominion of West & by South.”
  • Once the demon’s presence is felt, the medium can state their wishes for the demon before respectfully dismissing him.
